First Marshmallow updates for Samsung phones reportedly ‘delayed’ for February

Samsung has rarely led the way in software support and bumps to the newest Android iterations for even its best smartphones, but it’s never been as late as this year either. Marshmallows are yet to officially roll out to a single Galaxy “star”, unlike LG, Motorola or HTC devices.

Several upgrade timelines were rumored for handhelds as diverse as the Note 5, S6, Note 4, S5, A3 or J5, with the latest flagships initially expected to score 6.0 goodies as early as December, then January, and now February.


According to a refreshed guide, phase 1 of the industry-leading (in terms of sales, at least) company’s plans will include the Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge+, S6, S6 Edge, S5, Note 4, and Note Edge. The two fall 2015-released phablets should predictably reach the M milestone first (next month), followed shortly by the spring 2015 duo that’s recently received some beta love in Korea and the UK.

Afterwards, in March or April, it’ll be the turn of the two phones that unintendedly nabbed test builds in certain regions to jump to stable, fully polished software packages worldwide, alongside the Galaxy Note Edge.

All in all, the number of Samsung products tipped to move from Lollipop to Marshmallow by the time the latter OS turns six months old sounds about right, while the names of these gadgets are predictable but satisfying. On the not so bright side, it’s still taking Sammy far too long to get the ball rolling.
