Xiaomi Mi 6 to launch with Snapdragon 821 at first, then with SD835?
Things are getting messed up with Qualcomm’s latest (and most powerful) SoC, the Snapdragon 835 since Samsung accumulated all the available quantities for their upcoming Galaxy S8/S8+ models. Now Xiaomi Mi 6 is affected by this strategy and according to recent information, the Chinese company may choose to launch one variant of the device equipped with last year’s Snapdragon 821 SoC at first.

Xiaomi Mi TV 3S 60-inch gets a price cut, now just 4699 yuan ($680)
Xiaomi’s TVs are some of the most sought-after devices from the company. Unfortunately, like their phones and phone accessories, TVs aren’t very easy to ship internationally and thus, not a lot of people outside China get to have a taste of the Mi TV.

BOOM price drop on Xiaomi Mi4c pre-orders now only $249.99
Yes, we only started our pre-orders today but in our quest to keep our prices as low as possible we have dropped the Mi4c pre-order price to only $249.99!
The Xiaomi Mi4ic is a Snapdragon 808 phone with 5-inch FHD display, 2GB RAM, 16GB memory, USB Type C and fast charging. This smartphone is basically everything the Xiaomi Mi4i should have been only better and with a new cool ‘edge tap’ feature.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 launched with Helio X10 chip and PDAF staring at $125
The rumours can now all stop! Xiaomi have just announced the launch of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, and yes it is running the powerful Mediatek Helio X10 chipset.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is here and finally official in China. As I type this Xiaomi boss Lei Jun is still announcing all the details of his companies new budget phablet (so keep posted for updates) and so far we know the following about this new device.
First think is that we are super happy to see that Xiaomi and Mediatek are back together! Instead of stuffing a Snapdragon 615 in to the Redmi Note 2, Xiaomi have opted for the rather remarkable Mediatek Helio X10 chips (aka MT6795). We have seen the same processor in the LeTV Le1 and Meizu MX5 and been stunned by the performance of the processor. Also on the processing side of things the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 has 2GB RAM on board. We might have hoped for 3GB, but this is a budget phone and Xiaomi won’t want to cannibalise sales of the Mi Note range.

Xiaomi Mi 4 now available in Malaysia, but it doesn’t look like a great buy
Xiaomi Malaysia today finally announced the availability of the ex-flagship, i.e., the Mi 4 for the Malaysian market.
The Mi 4 hasn’t been Xiaomi’s most successful phone. In Malaysia, the phone will get to buyers via a rather unexpected channel — via a local distributor in Mont Asia. If you have your hopes high, you’d be disappointed to know that the Mi 4 sold in Malaysia will have no 4G LTE capabilities… and along with that, have a price tag of RM 1,199 (US$333), making it one among the more expensive phones from the Far East being sold in the country.
Having said that, I’d also like to mention that the Mi 4 is a mighty fine phone; the metal chassis and the camera happen to be two of its highest points. The phone might however bog down to other devices like the OnePlus One, etc. in Malaysia.
The Mi 4 has a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM and a 5-inch 1080p display. To find out more, you may want to read our review… meanwhile, if you’re looking to go for a 5-inch phone this year, the upcoming Mi 4i might be an option worth considering.

What do you think of these purported Xiaomi Mi5 specifications?
If rumours are correct, Xiaomi will continue to keep their flagship Mi phones smaller than the norm with Xiaomi Mi5 details pointing at a 2K, 5.2-inch display.
Xiaomi recently received a patent for its own fingerprint scanning technology, a feature found in many high-end devices, and one which is now tipped for inclusion in the Mi5.
Not only a fingerprint scanner though, new rumours also tell us that Xiaomi will continue to offer their top of the range phone with a smaller display. The current Mi4 has a 5-inch panel, where as the Mi5 is believed to get a 5.2-inch screen with 2560 x 1440 resolution. The norm for his level of phone is current 5.5-inch.
Qualcomm seems to be on board still providing a Snapdragon 810 SoC, there will be 4GB RAM too and a 3000mAh battery. The final detail we hear today is that the main camera will be a 16 mega-pixel model with OIS.
This year Xiaomi already launched the Mi Note at a higher price tag, but we believe the Mi5 will retain the trademark 1999 Yuan price tag for China.
What do you make of these Mi5 specs? Do you think a 2K resolution on a 5.2-inch display is a little overkill?

Part of the Xiaomi Mi4i’s low cost could be due to iPhone 5c style plastic body
Xiaomi may have wrapped it’s downgraded Xiaomi Mi4i in plastic similar to the iPhone 5c to keep it’s retail cost down.
Earlier today we reported that the Xiaomi Mi4i tipped for released in India could cost as little as $161. Part of the cost cutting will come in the form or a Snapdragon 615 rather than 801 chipset, but much of it could be due to a plastic construction.
The Xiaomi Mi4 represented the first phone from Xiaomi to focus on build quality with glass front and alloy chassis. These details might not be present on the new phone and instead have a polycarbonate material with dual SIM tray.
Other details include a 5-inch 1080p display, 2GB RAM, 16GB memory, 13 mega-pixel main camera and 5 mega-pixel front.
Xiaomi are expected to show off the Mi4i on April 23rd.

Xiaomi MiBand now has a leather strap option
The Xiaomi MiBand is a basic, yet very useable little wearable, but it’s not really the type of thing you can wear at a dinner date or a meeting, or is it?
Xiaomi have offered various silicon rubber straps for the MiBand since launch. Available in black, green, red, blue etc, the rubber option is cheap, cheerful and hard-wearing, but not exactly classy.
To ensure that you are still counting your steps and monitoring your exercise, Xiaomi have released a leather strap for the MiBand complete with alloy case. The brains of the MiBand simply slot in to the leather wrist strap of a more upmarket look.

Real photos of the Xiaomi Mi4 running Windows
After the surprising announcement made by the Microsoft that they were working with Xiaomi to release a downloadable Windows Phone ROM for the Mi4, some selected members of the press had the opportunity to test the new Windows ROM on the device itself.
According to some of the testers online, the ROM looked great and worked quite well considering it was a technical preview. Oddly, they also found the overall ROM slightly confusing to use, although this may be because if their unfamiliarity with Windows Phone.
Some testers also felt that the ROM helped the Mi4 feel unique, and that it allowed the Mi4 become less similar to the iPhone.
We’re still waiting for more news about the downloadable Windows Phone. Hugo Barra has clarified that Windows Phone will not be able to dual-boot with Android and that Windows Phone will be installed in a similar fashion to any custom ROM.

As we speculated, Xiaomi today announced the Redmi 2 at an event in the national capital of New Delhi in India. The phone is priced at 6,999 INR (US$111) and will go on sale 24th March onward.
Xiaomi also pulled of another surprising launch at the event in the form of the long awaited Mi Pad tablet, which although has been around for a while, still remains to be a top contender in any tablet purchase list.
The Redmi 2 that has been announced for India is the 1GB RAM variant, but a ‘limited edition’ 2GB RAM version will go on sale soon, details about which are scarce at the moment. On the other hand, the Mi Pad will go on sale same day — 24th March — for 12,999 INR (US$208). Interestingly, there will be no registration required and the tablet could be ordered from Flipkart, no strings attached.

Xiaomishop.com forced to rename, now called Honorbuy.com
Xiaomishop.com have been a favourite store of ours to buy the latest Xiaomi phones, and accessories, but under pressure from Xiaomi in China have been forced to change the name of their store.
We had heard rumours that Xiaomi’s Hugo Barra was contacting Xiaomi online stores around the world and asking them to no longer use the Xiaomi name in their URL. The issue has been on going for a few months now, but it finally seems like Xiaomi have won the battle and stores using the name in their URL are having to rebrand.
Xiaomishop.com sent out an email yesterday alerting customers that they had migrated all of their services to a new URL to avoid legal action against Xiaomi. The new URL is Honorbuy.com, and in the change the store has also expanded it’s range of products to include Meizu and Huawei phones as well as the whole range of Xiaomi phones and products.
We have had good experience with the company when they were named Xiaomishop.com and believe that this will continue under the new HonorBuy.com name. How many more online Xiaomi stores will be forced to make a switch?
